The Providence Academy 8th Grade Boys’ Basketball team started the New Year off strong, placing first in their tournament at St. Alphonsus Catholic School during the final week of January. This wrapped up a successful season for the athletes and paved the way for players to come.

Will Von Bank, ‘28 commented, “It was a great tournament with the team. Everyone contributed, and we played great defense and offense in both games.”

The tournament consisted of three games. The Lions received a bypass for the first round. They played St. Vincent in the second round and faced St. Alphonsus in the championship game.

Simon Hunter, ‘28 said, “We won the third game 57-44. We had to stay disciplined on defense and trust our teammates.”

The Lions won the tournament, taking home the first-place trophy. The boys were coached by Mike Kreklow, father of player Jake Krewlow, ‘28.

Jake Krewlow reflected, “Having my Dad as the coach allows me to be competitive, to always be putting in 100%. He sets expectations high and continues to push me to be the best that I can be.”

The team ended their season with a record of 10-1, and the athletes are excited to take on the next level of competition during High School. Congratulations on a great season and a fantastic win!
