CSW Sweatshirt: More Than What Meets the Eye

Catholic Schools Week is a week for all Catholic Schools to celebrate the great gift we have received from God. This is the freedom to practice and teach our religious values in our schools. During Catholic Schools Week, the students at Providence Academy enjoy certain privileges regarding their uniforms. Every year, the student council designs either a t-shirt or a sweatshirt with a logo on the front and a Bible verse on the back for the students to wear throughout the week. This year, the Student Council added a dandelion on the back of the sweatshirt to correspond with the quote.

These shirts unify the student body in support of the Catholic message and help us express our gratitude toward those who make this Catholic School possible. No matter what grade you are in, everyone wears the same shirt. Also, this shows that we are all here for the same reason, to learn and grow in our Catholic faith.

This year, the Student Council decided to switch things up a bit. The sweatshirt is actually maroon in color. In previous years, it has always been school colors or a neutral color. Freshman Student Council representative, AJ Hedberg ’21 said, “I think the significance of the color is for change.”

The Bible verse this year is:  “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). AJ said, “We chose this Bible verse and the dandelion because of its relevance to the duties of an evangelist. We are to spread the word of Christ far and wide, plant the seeds of faith into all nations, and help them to grow and spread the word as well.”

Unfortunately, there was a misprint on the sweatshirts that left off the Bible verse and the photograph of the dandelion. However, this error does not take away from the spirit and unifying purpose of the sweatshirts.
